The Arun Valley Makalu Base Camp trek is a classic 21- 25 days of hiking through an amazing cross section of the Himalayas, beginning at less than 1000 m. elevation and peaking at over 5000 m. From Tumlingtar airstrip the path follows the mighty Arun River, whose origins are located high on the Tibetan Plateau, to Num below where a giant dam is proposed. There, the route turns west and climbs gradually to Tashigaon. Above Tashigaon the terrain becomes more challenging and crosses the high passes, Khongma La and Shipton La with another Barun La, to go before reaching Base camp, some five to six days from Tashigaon. The views from high are worldly 360 degrees panoramas of Everest and Khumbu Himal, Makalu, Kanchanjunga and north into Tibet
